Poulton Gala 2018 Report
SMILES ALL AROUND AT REDROW-SPONSORED
MUSIC chimed and crowds cheered for a ceremonious community occasion at this year’s Poulton Gala, which was sponsored by Redrow.
The Gala has been a Poulton diary fixture for decades so the pressure was on to deliver – but with the sun shining, the brass band playing and hundreds of happy people in attendance organisers have declared it to have been “even better” than they could have hoped for.
At the pinnacle of the day, families spanning generations came together for Poulton Gala’s ‘Big Parade’ around mid-day. The award-winning Poulton Band started things off, marching and playing on their way.
The parade took on a new, extended route in the shape of a figure-of-eight, taking in the sights and delights of Poulton before culminating in the crowning of a new Gala Queen, Ella Louise Humphries.
Meanwhile, family entertainment was arranged to take place throughout the day in Market Place with music, stalls and specially-organised dance displays proving to be popular attractions.
Steve Nicholls, Poulton Gala Chairman, said: “It was an outstanding day and even better than the Gala Committee and sponsors Redrow could have hoped.
“The weather was just right for walking and crowds lining the route. The Market Place was a hub of activity and filled with happy people enjoying the entertainment on the day.”
Redrow – which has two developments in the town – was keen to put its backing behind the historic event and was the headline sponsor for the fun-filled community day.
Lesley Myers, sales manager for Redrow Homes (Lancashire), said: “Poulton Gala is something of an institution in the town and a showcase for all that’s great about living here – a warm, inviting community spirit in a picturesque setting.
“We were proud to be sponsors and would like to congratulate the Gala’s committee, made-up of volunteers, for staging such a wonderful event.”
Redrow’s Poulton developments include Oldfield Park, which is around a mile from the town centre, and currently boasts three and four-bedroom homes from £309,995; whilstThe Pavilion is right at the heart of Poulton, close to the train station, and currently has the four-bedroom detached Pembroke home from £272,995
Editor’s footnote: Redrow was established in 1974. Today, it is one of the most successful and acclaimed property developers in the UK, building over 5,400 premium quality family homes a year in prime locations across England and Wales. Poulton Gala 2015 Report
Poulton Gala 2015 took place on June 6th and continues it’s long history. There were an encouraging number of first time entries and all who took part in the parade were of a high standard. The wind was trying to send us back around the extended route but we managed to keep to schedule. The community of Poulton showed it’s spirit and there was a massive turn out which encouraged the participants. The Mayor and Mayoress, Councillor Tom and Mrs Alene Balmain walked in the parade and awarded the cup for the best mobile tableaux to Poppy Jack’s and the best walking group to our Barefoot Bellydance.
Katie was crowned ‘2015 Poulton-le-Fylde Gala Queen’ and the entertainment in the Market Place was superb right through the day. Led by our talented singer and compere Tom McLeod, we finished the day with performances from the young people from the Upbeat Rock Academy, which trains the young in musicianship. We unfortunately missed the older group from the Academy due to the threat of rain.
The whole Gala Committee would like to thank the visiting Queens and retinues, all the parade participants, all who entertained and the most important people, the community of Poulton who turned out to support the event.
